Corruption and Future Democracy in India

Introduction: India is the largest democratic country in the world. There are clearly defined areas of legislature, executive and judiciary in India. The way the picture of Indian democracy is changing, is a matter of serious concern. It would not be wrong to say that the words corruption India's politics have became synonyms to each other in India. Leaving aside a few exceptions, India’s politicians have made a fun of Indian democracy. Including regional parties, there are many political parties in India. But except a few politicians, all are alike. So people have no option but to elect the bad one. Thus one by one all the parties are befooling the public. By making false promises to the public, they get success to come into the power.

Corruption: India is a democratic country. But in fact its politicians and bureaucrats have shattered the soul of its democracy. Corruption has now settled in almost every corner of India's vast bureaucracy. Corruption can also lead to violence and other crimes. That's why many politicians and bureaucrats are found to be involved in criminal cases also. Corruption is so rampant in India that it can be seen from top to bottom in any corner of the country. People consider bribery their right. In some of the departments or fields the situation is so serious that it is next to impossible to get even the smallest things done without paying bribe. If one is not ready to pay bribe, he is compelled to take rounds from table to table. So to avoid wastage of time, mental and physical stress, one is compelled to pay bribe. By paying money anything fair or foul is possible in India. If scams are named, there would be a long list of politicians. We see that our intelligent student is getting sixty or a seventy percent mark while a duffer is holding a degree or diploma with ninety percent marks. An eligible person is struggling even for the lowest position while those who are not eligible, are enjoying the topmost positions everywhere. Why? This is all due to corruption.

Democracy: Indian democracy is in danger from several angles. There are so many communal forces in our country. The politicians and the bureaucrats are models of corruption. Parties are dropping good candidates but candidates with criminal background are being offered not only party tickets but also high portfolios. Senior people are sidelined while novice and juniors are highlighted and promoted. This is our present democracy where an ordinary citizen doesn't have enough medical facilities to save his life, on the other hand politicians and other influential people rush abroad to be treated from cough and cold. These are the representatives of our democracy. Reality of this democracy is that the voice of the innocent people has always been hushed by politicians and other powerful people due to corruption. Now the question arises how the democracy would sustain? Who will save it?

Conclusion: It seems that today democracy in India, has become just a platform for some people to enjoy their life. Its public is being exploited, cheated, and betrayed from all the directions. Just before the elections every party allures people by making false promises to them. And after winning elections, none of them has any concern for public problems. Politicians enjoy public-money. In a democratic country a large percentage of people are living below poverty line whereas the birthdays and other occasions of political personalities are celebrated lavishly. To save the future of Indian democracy from darkness, politicians and bureaucrats urgently need to shake off their dirt. The common men need to be more aware and educated. Good men need to raise their voice against corruption.
